Priya started dancing at the age of two and moved to Vanessa Lee Dance Academy in 2012. Priya has been trained by VLDA teachers in all types of dance styles including ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, lyrical, musical theatre and was in Vanessa Lee performance troupes until 2017. Priya was Miss Chantelle’s first solo student in 2012 at the temporary Unanderra studio and was later awarded the ‘Debbie Watts Memorial’ award in 2015 which is very sentimental to Priya.
In 2014 Priya won the junior song and dance championship at Wollongong Eisteddfod which started their passion for musical theatre. Priya has performed in many musicals across the Illawarra and has played many lead roles including the Wicked Witch of the West in ‘Wizard of Oz’, Chloe Valentine in ‘Be More Chill’, Terk in ‘Tarzan’, Phyllis Dale in ‘42nd Street’ and more as well as ensemble in many other shows. Priya has also performed in multiple overseas dance tours, including the VLDA 2017 USA Tour, Priya being the oldest performer.
Priya started teaching at VLDA in 2013 starting with 6/u performance troupe and sub-junior stretch alongside Miss Chantelle. They then started teaching Ready Set Dance and Ready Set Ballet in 2018 and continues to teach as the sole teacher of Ready Set Dance & Ready Set Ballet on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s.
In 2020, Priya will be undergoing a singing teacher course conducted by their singing teacher, Nella Magnante, and hopes to bring their singing skills to students at VLDA.
Priya has always had a passion for performing and the creative arts, particularly dance, and loves sharing this by teaching the young students of Vanessa Lee Dance Academy.
